Amy Tan is an American writer known for her novels and short stories that explore the Asian American experience. She is one of the most celebrated and successful Asian American writers of all time. Tan was born in Oakland, California, in 1952. Her parents were Chinese immigrants who came to the United States in the 1940s. Tan's childhood was geprägt by her parents' culture and traditions.
